- The Parasaurolophus was a North
- American duckbill with a long horny
- projection from the back of its
- head. It was much like the Trachodon
- -- a late Cretaceous herbivore with
- a mouth adapted for grinding plant
- material.
- Scientists are divided in their
- opinions about what the horny
- projection was for. Some theorize
- that it was for making sounds,
- others that it served as an air
- chamber.
- Parasaurolophus is a relative of
- the other duckbills, including
- Lambeosaurus, Trachodon, and
- Corythosaurus.^
